Uconn takes the series over Memphis

May 6, 2018

Memphis: UCONN takes game two 2-0 and the series against the struggling Memphis Tigers. The Huskies came into the series ranked 19th in the country and clearly showed why as they upend the Tigers.

The bright spot for the hometown Memphis Tigers was the performance by Jonathan Bowlan who went seven innings, gave up two runs, all while retiring an impressive eight batters to strikeouts. Bowlan coming off an impressive outing last week where he struck out eighteen and pitched a complete game, impressed well over twenty scouts at FedExPark on the campus of the University of Memphis. Jonathan Bowlan’s record of 2-7 is very misleading to how good and effective he has been for the Tigers, with an ERA of 2.75 it’s a no-brainer as to why he is the go-to guy for the Tigers.

Memphis lacked the consistency on offense which has been an ongoing problem for the Tigers. Memphis had five hits and zero runs in the loss tonight. Memphis will look to find the bats on Sunday for a win to salvage the dismal series with the Huskies.

With the win, the UCONN Huskies improves to 27-13 overall and 11-6 in AAC play. UCONN is likely to be a very sneaky team come NCAA Tournament time with experience and depth to compete with most teams across the country.

The pitching staff for the Huskies was very effective with Jeff Kersten going six innings, zero runs, three hits, and eight strikeouts. Kersten improves to 3-1 on the season with an ERA of 3.59. P.J. Poulin came in to get the save in the 8th inning going two innings, with six strikeouts he came in and went lights out against the Tigers.

With the loss, Memphis falls to 15-32 on the season and 2-15 in AAC play.
